1972. Students Being Brainwashed on Profits? The Indianapolis Star. Oct 15.
To the Editor of The Star:
As a college professor I asked several freshman classes how much they thought a supermarket’s profit was on each sales dollar. Most of the guesses ranged from 15 to 45 cents though one girl guessed 65 cents. Other professors in various parts of the country have asked the same question and have been given the same answer.
These college children, who now can vote, simply do not believe it when told that the profit is close to one cent, and that the A & P had two years with a profit of about one half cent.
One may therefore surmise that the system is seriously faulty. Apparently there is a wide spread attempt to propagandize these children with false information. Where else could the source for such widespread and such exaggerated views? And ordinary citizens pay enormous taxes to support this sort of brainwashing.
