Gordon Clark: Misplaced Sympathy (The Indianapolis Star)

1965. Misplaced Sympathy. The Indianapolis Star. Jun 8.

To the Editor of The Star:

The frequent letters on capital punishment show the important nature of the subject. Some clergymen have said that capital punishment is not Christian. If my memory serves, some of these same clergymen, about two years ago, were defending the sale of pornography in Indianapolis. It would seem that these men and their churches do not know much about Christianity.

Misplaced sympathy for the criminal and callousness toward the victim have made the streets unsafe. Crime soars. Especially violent crime. In view of the results of this type of penology, wouldn't you think that there would be a great return to the ideas of justice and punishment? Capital punishment is the perfect deterrent. No executed murderer kills again. Paroled criminals do.
